When using Automotive Paint to cover up scratches or chips in the original paint work, it is recommended that several light coats are used to ensure an even application. When painting a large area, there are specific Automotive Painting tools which are used.
Airbrushes:
The airbrush is a small, highly precise spray gun for applying paint. An airbrush works by passing a stream of fast moving pumped or compressed air through a vent, which creates a local reduction in air pressure (suction) that allows paint to be pulled up from an interconnected reservoir at normal atmospheric pressure. The high velocity of the air atomizes the paint into very tiny droplets as it blows past a very fine paint metering component. The technique also allows for the blending of two or more colors in a seamless way. This is also used for custom paint jobs.
Aerosol vehicle paint is also available which allows larger paint coverage than paint pens. The difference between aerosol vehicle paint and airbrush paint is that airbrush paint allows for a more controlled method of application.
